a Ricardo Bouyett fine art story
"Oh, Bouy" is an expansive exploration into the complexity of manhood in contemporary American society. Informed, inspired, and directed by my personal experiences with rape, racism, and domestic abuse, I created a collection of photos, poems, and films that helped me navigate both my recovery and the social landscape of the American male. The series is a culmination of four bodies of work: Two fine art zines, and two short experimental short films. All of which examine rape culture and toxic masculinity through the queer Latinx lens.
Aimed at dissecting rape culture, racism, and the rhetoric of manhood in contemporary American society. Volume 1 opens up the collective with a fashion, nude, and self-portrait series following my recovery from rape and coming to understand the role of male violence.
An experimental narrative short, Volume 2 is a ten minute visual exposition addressing violence against women and the ramifications of male violence on all genders and sexes.
An experimental narrative short that navigates manhood through the queer male lens. "The B-Sides" looks at the other side of the rape culture coin and explores manhood through vulnerability and sensitivity.
The conclusion to the "Oh, Bouy" collective, Volume 4 navigates love and sex through the queer male experience.
