My name is Ricardo Bouyett and I'm a photographer and filmmaker passionate about telling stories traversing identity, sexuality, and spirituality. I'm fascinated with human emotions and the circumstances that connects us back to one another.
In recent years I've dedicated myself to practicing self-healing from personal traumas in all of my work, specifically confronting issues of rape culture by dissecting my personal experiences with being raped and what the aftermath has taught me about the role of male violence within American society.
With this therapeutic approach to portrait-making, I began to see the "self" as a constant cycle of building-up and tearing-down in an effort to better adapt to the changing world. In the rise and in the fall I find the most honest and powerful version of ourselves to come through. My goal with telling these stories is to lift up unheard voices.
